An Act of State

An Act of State

The prophetic martyr slain ( A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
– by Jonathan Robles

He was an empire’s marked man.
The prophetic martyr wasn’t slain alone.
It was an orchestrated cover.
This fact is now well known.

Dr. King was feared for his love
and voice which was broadcast.
Peace in the face of violence,
too strong a national contrast.

Now he’s politically correct
and put on greeting cards.
Singing his praises to the masses,
will get your career far.

Yet the prophet is still a threat,
no matter what they say.
Not a threat to their lives,
but a direct threat to their ways.

Like Abel, his blood still speaks
to those with a conscious to hear.
It speaks of justice and love,
with the power to conquer fear.

So fear we will not,
though the bloody hands remain.
They touch the halls of government,
secret societies, and the CIA.

These things are said to awaken those present,
not to embitter our minds towards the past.
And to remind us – like the tares -
good and evil both will last.

Although King has been resting
for quite some many years.
Those bloody hands passed on the torch
To new hands that still cause tears.

But like them, King also left a legacy.
We are echoes of his voice.
Non-violence, equality and unconditional love.
Every day this is our choice.

As time and space move on
the Truth will still remain.
Today is just a tribute,
to a prophetic martyr slain.
